When large national or global events like The Olympics, Superbowl, or even Award Shows are aired on Television they draw insanely large audiences thus attracting the attention of brands and Ad executives alike. However, as of the past few years there has been a flooding of event themed promotional video content to the internet in an attempt to gain viral exposure and capitalize on the moment. A great example of this would be the “If we did it” campaign from NewCastle. If you have not checked it out yet I highly encourage you to click here and enjoy. They chose to forgo traditional Television Ads altogether and release all of their content online in turn stealing the spotlight from major brands who premiered on air.
It should come as no surprise that with The World Cup fever upon us that brands stormed the internet in troves with videos to catch the wave. Now let’s have a look!
EA Sports: “Landon Donovan – Always In The Game
U.S. soccer icon, Landon Donovan, may not be participating in The World Cup this year but according to EA Sports he is enjoying his downtime while flexing his skills on PlayStation 3’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. The self-deprecating vibe and deadpan song are perfectly paired in this charming Ad.
Nike Football: “The Last Game Ft. Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Rooney, Zlatan, Iniesta & more”
What would a large sporting event be without an epic spot courtesy of Nike? This year Nike took an unexpected turn and as part of the massive “Risk Everything” campaign here we have a 5 minute long video depicting its take on the current state of soccer around the world. In the fully animated video scientists have created clones of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Andrés Iniesta, Franck Ribery, David Luiz and Tim Howard. It becomes no risk clones versus high risk real players game. Deep Blue vs. Kasparov for the future of world football. It is an interesting direction for Nike seeing as they normally go for the star studded high impact Ads but we will let you be the judge.
Beats by Dre: “The Game Before The Game”
Well, I found the epic Nike Ad, it was stolen by Beats by Dre, pre game rituals and all. The spot centre’s around the pre game rituals of some of soccer’s biggest stars with cameos from Lil Wayne, Serena Williams, Nicki Minaj and even the Incredible Hulk.
Your move Nike.
Adidas: “House Match ft.Beckham, Zidane, Bale and Lucas Moura: all in or nothing”
With all of the overly epic Ads The World Cup has fostered it’s nice to see Adidas just have some fun. Here we have retired game giants David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane take on youngster’s Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura in a game of indoor soccer. It is a lot of good old fun watching them kick the ball around and slowly trash David’s former home, “Beckingham Palace”.
